IAAPI: Key Policy Advocacy Initiatives for the Amusement Industry

Published On: 08 January 2026

The Indian Association of Amusement Parks and Industries (IAAPI) continues to actively engage with policymakers to support the sustainable growth of the amusement industry, encompassing amusement parks, water parks, theme parks, and indoor amusement centers. Key initiatives currently underway are as follows:

  1. BIS Certification Relaxation
IAAPI, along with leading indoor amusement center operators, is in dialogue with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to seek relaxation in BIS certification norms for imported amusement equipment. Discussions have been positive so far, and the industry remains hopeful of a pragmatic outcome.

  2. GST Rationalisation on Amusement Operations
IAAPI is actively advocating with relevant ministries for GST rationalisation from 18% to 5% on amusement operations. This remains an ongoing engagement, with sustained efforts to ensure the industry’s concerns are duly considered.

  3. Collaboration with Ministry of Tourism
IAAPI is working with the Ministry of Tourism on a strategy paper for the sector. A reputed elite consultant has been engaged to conduct a detailed study and prepare the report.

  4. White Paper on Indoor Amusement Centers (IACs)
IAAPI is developing a comprehensive white paper on indoor amusement centers in India—covering the past, present, and future of the sector, along with opportunities and challenges—in collaboration with an elite real estate agency.

  5. Manufacturing Support & PLI Advocacy
IAAPI is working towards securing government support for domestic manufacturing of amusement equipment, positioning it as an import-substitute and export-oriented sector. Advocacy for inclusion under the PLI framework, inspired by the success of India’s toy manufacturing sector, is currently in the documentation stage and will be formally presented shortly.

IAAPI’s policy advocacy is driven by the exemplary leadership of the 1st Vice Chair and 2nd Vice Chair, whose strategic guidance and active involvement have been invaluable. The Board of Directors has consistently provided direction and support, while the IAAPI Secretariat has played a critical role through research, coordination, and execution of these initiatives.

IAAPI remains committed to constructive engagement with the government to enable long-term, sustainable growth of India’s amusement industry.
