Published On: 08 January 2026

Mr. Abbas Jabalpurwala – Chairman, IAC Committee, along with members from IAC and the Secretariat, met Shri Sanjay Singh, Joint Secretary, DPIIT – Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, yesterday to discuss the Quality Control Order (QCO) and to seek exemption for amusement machines.

During the discussion, DPIIT conveyed that while the concerns of the amusement industry are acknowledged, a complete exemption from the Quality Control Order may be difficult. The government emphasized the need for the Indian amusement industry to enhance its competitiveness and align with long-term national objectives of strengthening domestic manufacturing and quality standards.

It was highlighted that the industry would be required to present a clear, structured, and phased roadmap outlining how it plans to build in-house capabilities over time. This roadmap would be an important consideration in future discussions and would focus on:

  • Building in-house manufacturing and testing capabilities
  • Improving quality, safety, and compliance standards
  • Reducing long-term dependence on imports
  • Gradually aligning with applicable Indian and international standards

From the perspective of IAAPI members, Mr. Abbas Jabalpurwala represented the industry’s collective viewpoint, ensuring that the practical realities of the amusement sector were placed before the Ministry. The discussion reinforced the need for continued engagement between the industry and the government to arrive at a balanced approach that supports both regulatory objectives and sustainable industry growth.
